John Alexander is the current Club Secretary at Manchester United. He joined the Club in July 2010 after ten years as Secretary at Tottenham Hotspur.
Alexander was born in Liverpool in 1955. He played professional football in his early twenties, appearing for Millwall, Reading and Northampton Town. After retiring from playing, he worked at the BBC before entering football administration as Club Secretary at Watford. In 2000, he was appointed Club Secretary at Tottenham Hotspur and, in 2010, he followed Ken Ramsden as Club Secretary of Manchester United.
Responsible for overall administration at the Club, Alexander oversees the arranging of fixtures, the registration of players, the organisation of particular projects, as well as the smooth running of all home games. Following Walter Crickmer (1926-1958), Les Olive (1958-1988), Ken Merrett (1988-2007) and Ken Ramsden (2007-2010), Alexander is only the fifth Manchester United Secretary since the second world war.
