Tomasz Kuszczak is a Polish goalkeeper who made sixty-one appearances for Manchester United between 2006 and 2011.
Kuszczak was born and brought up in Poland, where he played his early football. In 2000 he joined Hertha BSC in Germany, where he remained for four seasons. At the end of his contract, in 2004, he was brought to the Premiership by West Bromwich Albion. Late in the 2004-2005 season, Kuszczak came on as a substitute in West Brom’s game against Manchester United at Old Trafford. His performance was excellent and his ability duly noted. During the following season, 2005-2006, he was West Brom’s first-choice goalkeeper and then, during the summer of 2006, he switched to Manchester United. The arrangement was initially a loan, with the transfer being completed the following year. Kuszczak’s time at Manchester United coincided with that of Edwin van de Saar, meaning Kuszczak was never first-choice goalkeeper. Over five seasons he averaged just twelve appearances a season and, in his final season at the club, 2011-2012, made no senior appearances at all. In February 2012 he went, on loan, to Watford and then, in June 2012, he signed for Brighton and Hove Albion.
Kuszczak has made various international appearances for Poland at both junior and senior levels.
