Player profile

Robin van Persie is a Dutch striker, who joined Manchester United from Arsenal in August 2012.

van Persie was born in Rotterdam in 1983. After a short time with the youth squad of SBV Excelsior, he signed for Feyenoord, where he played junior and then senior football until 2004. In May 2004, he signed for Arsenal. Over eight seasons at Arsenal he made nearly three hundred appearances, ending his career there as club captain. In his final season, 2011-2012, he won the ‘Golden Boot‘ award for most goals in the season and was also voted PFA Players’ Player of the Year and Football Writers’ Footballer of the Year. In August, he signed for Manchester United for an estimated fee of £22m.

van Persie is a left-footed striker who began his career on the left wing. He can dribble and shoot and is excellent at set pieces. His injury record is less impressive. Throughout his career, he’s missed many games with foot, ankle and knee injuries.

van Persie has played for Holland on many occasions at both junior and senior levels.
