Alex Forsyth made 119 appearances for Manchester United and scored 5 goals. He played over six seasons, and is best remembered as the club’s right full-back in the promotion-winning side of 1974-1975.

Forsyth was born in Glasgow in 1952 and, after a brief stay as a teenager at Arsenal, he began his professional football career at Partick Thistle. In December 1972, new Manchester United manager, Tommy Docherty, made him one of his first signings. Forsyth had begun his career as a left-winger, but he joined Manchester United as a right full-back. He played his greatest number of games in the 1974-1975 season. In the fight for promotion, Alex Forsyth was an able performer. He was a good tackler, he was always ready to go forward and he possessed a powerful shot. He wasn’t the quickest ever to have played at full-back, but he played with a determination that endeared him to the supporters. He played at Wembley in the FA Cup Final at the end of the 1975-1976 season (which was lost 1-0 to Southampton) but, by the following year, he had lost his place to Jimmy Nicholl. He played mainly for the Reserves in his last two seasons and left the club in 1978. Returning to Scotland, he played for Glasgow Rangers, Motherwell and Hamilton Academical before retiring.
